The Challenge

Hyōron had built a devoted print readership but its digital presence was an afterthought — a generic CMS layout that reduced considered long-form writing to scrollable content indistinguishable from any other culture blog. The publication needed a digital home that commanded the same respect as its printed pages.

The Solution

MIRAÉ designed a platform around the reading experience first — generous typography, controlled image placement, and a navigation system that encouraged depth rather than browsing. Each issue was treated as a designed artefact online, with distinct visual identities per edition rather than a single rolling feed.

Result

Digital subscriptions increased by over 60% in the six months following launch and Hyōron's platform was featured in Typewolf and several international editorial design publications. The publication is now considered a reference point for how independent magazines should exist online.
