The Challenge

Yōake had built a loyal following across six Tokyo locations through product quality and spatial care, but lacked a codified brand position to anchor growth abroad. Entering markets where % Arabica and Blue Bottle had already defined "Japanese coffee" meant Yōake needed a distinct, defensible identity — not a faster version of what already existed.

The Solution

MIRAÉ positioned Yōake around the concept of *asa* — the Japanese relationship with morning as a ritual of preparation, not efficiency. The strategy reframed the brand from a coffee company to a morning practice, with every touchpoint designed to slow the customer down rather than move them through.

Result

The strategy underpinned Yōake's expansion into Seoul, Singapore, and London over 18 months, with each location receiving full brand compliance documentation developed by CODA. Yōake is now cited alongside % Arabica as a defining voice in Japanese specialty coffee internationally.
